BE fluency

You may be a grammar genius, an intuitive learner who struggled to survive in language class, or something in between. Everyone faces the same challenge: How do I become fluent?

Every language teacher in the world will tell you how unique they are for “adjusting lessons according to students’ needs.” Apart from knowing what you’re doing, this is sort of the minimum requirement for being a private language teacher, and I’m not going to waste your time reiterating this.

What gives me the one-up on other teachers is my life-long frustration with mediocre pedagogy. As an intuitive visual learner who grew up in an educational system designed for and by textual learners, I had to develop my own techniques to absorb the technical knowledge that originally didn’t come naturally to me. It’s not about adjusting the curriculum, it’s about reaching you as a student, and I am constantly preoccupied with how to do just that—if I don’t, all else is forfeit.

failure equals success

The key to becoming fluent is the willingness to sacrifice your ego right now to reap huge gains later. Yes, it’s hard work. A good teacher is like a personal trainer—their job is directing your attention to the muscles that need the most work. Becoming fluent is about reaching that level where you feel confident navigating in most contexts, private and professional, in your new language.

Apart from my background in linguistics and ten years of teaching experience, I have personally learned to speak four foreign languages fluently, so you know I know what I’m talking about. The challenges you are going to face are familiar to me, and I have both first and second hand experience of how to overcome them.

WHAT DO I NEED?

Willingness to sacrifice your ego right now to reap huge gains later. I know, it’s scary and you feel dumb talking to natives, but that’s actually your job. I like to think of it as continuous voluntary self-humiliation. Don’t worry, it’s a good thing.

After a while, it translates into serious linguistic skill that will open some serious doors for you and make people respect you. You’ll become a stronger person by realizing that you are not the sum of your mistakes.

You invest in you by aiming a little bit higher each day.
I invest in you by creating the optimal environment for you to grow.

Success is walking from failure to failure with no loss of enthusiasm.
— Winston Churchill

Multimodal learning

Ask any athlete: Taking your skills to the next level means practicing all aspects of the game. But learning should be fun, too! You’ll engage in a range of assignments that help you practice conversation, reading, writing, and listening skills. We’ll make you fluent using articles, music, podcasts, and movies in addition to traditional curriculum to make sure you have fun while you learn.

Confidence

Our reality is shaped by how we think. As a student and a teacher, I’m keenly aware that not believing in your own ability can wreck your progress. When we free our mind from faulty conceptions about our own capability, the impossible becomes the possible. With me, you’ll have a teacher who cares about you and balances uplifting feedback with clear constructive criticism.

Down to business

I give full-hour lessons to beginners and advanced students alike. We can meet via Zoom, Skype, or face-to-face in Jerusalem. By meeting two to three times a week, we’ll make the best use of your time and resources by keeping the pot stirring, cooking away those bits you struggle with. At the end of the day, I suspect you’ve made it to this page because you want progress and not just maintenance.
